Latvia moves up ahead of Lithuania in FIFA rankings

The Latvian national men's football team has moved up six spots in the latest FIFA rankings to 103rd place, moving up ahead of Lithuania, which is currently ranked 104th, informs LETA.

 

Just eight months ago, Latvia dropped to its lowest ever ranking – 119th.

 

In August 2012, Latvia was ranked 70th in the FIFA rankings.

 

Latvia currently has 314 ranking points.

 

Meanwhile, Estonia is ranked 92nd.

 

After winning the FIFA World Cup earlier this month, Germany has darted up to first place in the rankings for the first time since 1005.

 

World Cup runners-up Argentina is ranked second, followed by the Netherlands in third and Colombia in fourth.

 

Belgium is ranked fifth, followed by Uruguay, Brazil, Spain, Switzerland and France.


Mentioning Latvia's group opponents in the EURO 2016 qualification campaign, the Netherlands is ranked 3rd, the Turkey is ranked 32nd, Czech Republic is ranked 35th, Iceland is ranked 47th, while Kazakhstan is ranked 127th.

 

Latvia will kick off its EURO 2016 qualification campaign in September.
