Three Star Order May 4th honorees announced in Latvia

The next group of Latvian statesmen, cultural and public figures receiving the nation's highest honor – The Order of the Three Stars, was announced yesterday, informs LETA.

 

The presentation ceremony is scheduled for May 4th – the 1990 Independence Day.

 

Among those chosen for their invaluable contribution to the Latvian nation are: Finance Ministry State Secretary Sanita Bajare (Order, category 3), Central Election Commission Chairman Arnis Cimdars, Bank of Latvia Governor Ilmars Rimsevics, Latvian Ambassador to the European Union Ilze Juhansone and Latvijas Valsts Mezi/"Latvian State Forests" President Roberts Stripnieks (all category 3).

 

Three well-known Latvian folk dance choreographers will be honored: Maruta Alpa (category 4), Janis Erglis (category 4), Janis Purvins (category 5), as will Theater and Audiovisual Arts Professor, the noted director Peteris Krilovs (category 5).

 

Meijers Melers, a community activist and Holocaust researcher, has also been selected for the Order, also Andrejs Volmars, long-time arts and entertainment reporter on LTV (both category 5).
