Thousands participated in "Via Crucis" procession in Riga

April 18th was a Good Friday, as thousands of parishioners from Riga's Catholic and Lutheran churches gathered in Old Town for the traditional "Via Crucis" procession, informs LETA.

 

The procession started from the (Catholic) St. Jacob's Cathedral, where a prayer of atonement was spoken, and clergymen read from the Holy Book.

 

The procession, with severak stops along the way this year, began at noon and ended at (Lutheran) Dome Church at 2.30 p.m.

 

This tradition has become more popular over the years, with several other "Via Crucis" processions taking place in other cities throughout the country – Madona, Liepaja, Kraslava, Ludza, Valmiera, Ventspils, Daugavpils, Aglona, Olaine, Dobele, Saldus, Talsi, Kandava, Cesvaine, Pavilosta, Bene, Auca, Livberze, Baltinava, Raipola and in other towns and villages.
