Latvian U-18 ice hockey team earns promotion back to Elite Division

On Thursday, the Latvian under-18 (U-18) men's ice hockey team defeated Italy 5:2 in their fourth game at this year's World U-18 Men's Ice Hockey Championships (Division A), informs LETA.

 

With the win, the Latvian team remains undefeated in the tournament with four wins and zero losses, and with a Norway loss to Kazakhstan Latvia will finish in first place and has earned promotion back to the Elite Division.

 

Frenks Razgals, Eduards Jansons, Kirils Galoha, Karlis Cukste and Eriks Zohovs scored the goals for Latvia.

 

As reported, Latvia opened the tournament with a 5:2 win over Kazakhstan, a 3:2 victory over Belarus and a 5:1 win over France.

 

The Division A tournament is made up of Latvia, France, Kazakhstan, Norway, Italy and Belarus. Each team will play each other once. Only the winner will earn promotion to the Elite Division.

 

Last year, Latvia was relegated from the Elite Division to Division A.
