Foreigners who held picket in the nude in Tallinn were fined

BC, Tallinn, 23.07.2008.Print version

The police fined the foreigners who held a picket nearly in the nude in front of the British embassy in Tallinn, writes the National Broadcasting.

The foreigners were fined in the expedited proceedings while the Estonian citizen participating in the demonstration is still waiting for the continuation of the proceedings in regular fashion.

The foreign citizens have by now paid their fine. The police will not disclose the amount concerned, but press spokesman of the North Circuit Police Prefecture Mihkel Loide stated that the amount was less than a thousand kroons.

The proceedings have not been concluded regarding the Estonian citizen. “Usually a choice is given, whether an individual will receive a protocol of expedited procedure, he or she will be released immediately while they have to agree with the punishment, but if they do not agree with it, there will be normal proceedings. And the Estonian did not agree to expedited proceedings,” said Loide.

Last Wednesday the activists of the organisation PETA who demonstrated nearly in the nude in front of the British embassy were only able to express their opposition towards killing grizzly bears for the Queen’s guards hats for a few minutes before the police detained them for breaching public order.
