Print versionToday the award-winning Riga youth choir "Kamer…" will leave for Copenhagen in Denmark, where it will perform, for the first time outside Latvia, the songs from its latest project "World Sun Songs", as the project's manager Kristine Zvirbule informed LETA.
The World Symposium on Choral Music is the central event of the International Federation for Choral Music, held every three years. This time it is hosted by Danish choral music association "Choral Denmark". The symposium takes place for the 8th time and will last until July 26.
29 outstanding choirs from all around the world will perform in workshops and concerts of the symposium. "Kamer..." will perform two solo concerts, presenting the "World Sun Songs" program in Copenhagen on July 24 and July 25.
Only two choirs – a youth choir from Indonesia and the Latvian "Kamer..." have been chosen for the ceremonious closing concert of the symposium, which will take place in Copenhagen Royal Opera House on July 26. The concert will be broadcast on Danish and international music channels; 2000 choral music composers, conductors and experts from all over the world will be in the audience.
Maris Sirmais, the artistic director of "Kamer...", admits that it is a great honor and responsibility for the choir to perform in the symposium.
As reported, the first performance of "World Sun Songs" took place on July 3, in the University of Latvia's Magna Aula. 17 composers from 16 countries, who wrote songs with a solar theme specially for "Kamer..." were present.
Youth choir "Kamer..." was founded in 1990 on the initiative of conductor Maris Sirmais. "Kamer…" now includes about seventy young singers, and has been recognized one of the most outstanding choirs not only in Latvia, but also in Europe.
