Latvia in same group as hosts Belarus at Ice Hockey WC 2014

The Latvian national men's ice hockey team has retained its 11th place ranking in the International Ice Hockey Federation's World Rankings and will play in the same group as hosts Belarus at next year's World Championship, informs LETA.
According to the rankings, Latvia will be in the same group as Finland (ranked 2nd), Russia (ranked 3rd), the United States (ranked 6th), Switzerland (ranked 7th), Germany (ranked 10th), Belarus (ranked 14th) and Kazakhstan (ranked 16th).
Meanwhile, the second group will be made up of Sweden (ranked 1st), Czech Republic (ranked 4th), Canada (ranked 5th), Slovakia (ranked 8th), Norway (ranked 9th), Denmark (ranked 12th), France (ranked 13th) and Italy (ranked 18th).
The 2014 Ice Hockey World Championship will be played in the Belarus capital from May 9 to 25 next year.
Latvia finished in 11th place this year in Finland.
