Latvia loses bid to organize 2017 Ice Hockey World Championships

The joint Latvian/Danish bid to organize the 2017 Ice Hockey World Championships was not selected during the International Ice Hockey Federation's (IIHF) annual congress on Friday, informs LETA.
The joint German/French was selected to host the tournament in 2017, which will be played out in Cologne and Paris.
The German/French bid received 63 votes from delegates, while the Latvian/Danish bid received 45 votes.
The president of the Latvian Ice Hockey Federation Kirovs Lipmans previously said that Latvia intends to submit a lone bid to organize the 2018 Ice Hockey World Championships.
Next year's Ice Hockey World Championships will be held in Belarus, the 2015 tournament will be held in the Czech Republic, while the World Championships will be held in Russia in 2016.
Latvia has hosted the Ice Hockey World Championships once – in 2006.
