Lithuania celebrates Independence Day

Lithuania celebrates the 23th anniversary of the Independence Day. On March 11 in 1990, the Restorative Supreme Council of Seimas adopted the Act of Restoration of Independence of Lithuania. 124 deputies voted for this act, while 6 abstained. Based on this act, Lithuanian Supreme Council announced that Lithuanian sovereignty was restored and Lithuania was once again an independent state, informs LETA/ELTA.

 

The celebratory events started at monument Zinia at the Independence Square in Vilnius. Later photography exhibition Uz Lietuvos Nepriklausomybe was opened in Parliament gallery.

 

Solemn commemoration began at the Seimas at 10.00 a.m. At noon flags of three Baltic States will be raised. At the meantime, the flag of Vytis Cross of the Order will be raised at Vytautas the Great War Museum in Kaunas.

 

Shortly after the flag-raising ceremony, masses will be held at Vilnius Cathedral. Later the State of Independence Scholarship will be granted at the Seimas.

 

Events of March 11 will take place across the entire Lithuania.
