Victory Day parade to take place in Haapsalu in 2013
At the proposal of the Estonian President the voluntary Defence League, the annual Victory Day parade takes place in Haapsalu in 2013 on June 23, LETA/Postimees Online reports.
Defense League information department chief Tanel Rütman said that the parade will not be as grand as last year, the number of participants will be below 1,000 since the only suitable square in the town, by the historical railway station, doesn't accommodate more people. The Victory Day parade will be bigger next year when 95 years passes from the battle of Võnnu.
Last year the parade took place in Pärnu and was the biggest after Estonia regained independence with over 1,500 participants.
June 23 has been celebrated as the Victory Day since 1934, to commemorate the victory of the Estonian troops in Võnnu in June 1919, which led to Estonia’s victory in the War of Independence.
