Lithuania completes talks on beef exports to China

Print versionLithuania on Wednesday concluded talks on frozen beef exports to China, opening the way for Lithuanian meat producers to look for export opportunities in the biggest Asian market, writes LETA/BNS.

"The (Lithuanian Agriculture) Ministry, the Chinese authority and the (Lithuanian State) Food and Veterinary Service signed a trilateral protocol on the requirements for frozen beef exports to China," told Remigijus Bielinskas, a spokesman for the agriculture minister.
"That country will now have to issue certificates and draw up a list of companies allowed to export beef," he said.
The protocol was signed after a meeting between Lithuanian Agriculture Minister Bronius Markauskas and Mei Kebao, China's Vice Minister of General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, the spokesman said.
Vilnius has tried for several years now to convince Beijing to open the Chinese market to Lithuanian beef products.
