With the pea-harvesting season in full swing in Lithuania, the first shiploads of peas will depart for India in a couple of weeks, the daily Lietuvos Rytas reported on Tuesday, informs LETA/BNS.
Two ships loaded with 25,000 tons of peas are to leave the port of
Klaipeda for India in the second half of August.
The pea purchase price this year is several
percent higher than it was last year. For example, Linas Agro currently pays
farmers 242 euros per ton of peas, up from around 210 euros a year ago.
According to farmers' declarations, the total
area of land sown with peas almost doubled to 155,000 hectares this year, from
79,700 hectares last year.
