Foreign trade deficit of Lithuania amounted to LTL 0.5 bln in October
Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin amounted to LTL 4.7 billion (EUR 1.4 billion). The foreign trade deficit of Lithuania amounted to LTL 0.5 billion (EUR 0.1 billion).
Over the month (October 2014, against September), exports increased by 5.4, imports – by 5.1%. The increase in exports was influenced by an increase in exports of fertilisers (58.3%), furniture (16.5%), and boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances and parts thereof (8.9%). The increase in imports was influenced by a 10% increase in imports of crude oil, 20.7% – pharmaceutical products, 7.5% – plastics and articles thereof. Mineral products excluded, exports increased by 5.9, imports – by 4.2%. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin increased by 5.8%, mineral products excluded – by 6.3%. Exports to Russia increased by 3.4%, of goods of Lithuanian origin – by 11.3%, which was conditioned by an increase in exports of plastics and articles thereof (96.7%), preparations of cereals, flour, starch or milk (2.1 times), electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof (2.2 times).

Over the year (October 2014, against October 2013), exports increased by 5%, imports – by 4%. The increase in exports was influenced by an increase in exports of cereals (51.4%). The increase in exports and imports was influenced by an increase in exports and imports of boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances and parts thereof (by 26.8 and 27.5% respectively) and electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof (29.3 and 24.9% respectively). Mineral products excluded, exports and imports increased by 8.6 and 7.6% respectively. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin increased by 0.7, mineral products excluded – by 8.8%.
In January–October 2014, against January–October 2013, exports decreased by 0.8, while imports increased by 0.3%. The decrease in exports was influenced by a decrease in exports of petroleum products (26.8%) and ground vehicles (20.2%). The increase in imports was influenced by an increase in imports of electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof (41.1%). Mineral products excluded, exports and imports increased by 7.4 and 9.1% respectively. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin decreased by 7.9%, mineral products excluded – grew by 4.2%. Exports to Russia increased by 7.8%, while exports of goods of Lithuanian origin – decreased by 14%, which was conditioned by a decrease in exports of milk and dairy products (35.3%), meat and edible meat offal (34.1%), ground vehicles (28.4%), and preparations of meat, of fish or of crustaceans, molluscs or other aquatic invertebrates (58%). Exports of food and agricultural products (CN sections I–IV) to Russia decreased by 14.2%, of food and agricultural products of Lithuanian origin – by 26.5% (in January–October 2013, exports of such products amounted to LTL 971.5 million (EUR 281.4 million), while in the same period of 2014 – LTL 714.5 million (EUR 206.9 million)).
In January–October 2014, the most important Lithuania's partners in exports were Russia (21.3%), Latvia (9.2%), Poland (8.2%), and Germany (7.3%), in imports – Russia (22%), Germany (11%), Poland (9.6%), and Latvia (6.9%). Most of the goods of Lithuanian origin were exported to Germany (10.4%), Latvia (8.3%), the Netherlands (7.4%), and Poland (7.1%).
In January–October 2014, the largest share in Lithuania's exports and imports fell within mineral products (17.8 and 25.7% respectively), machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment (15.3 and 16.6%), and products of the chemical or allied industries (9 and 10.6%). As for the goods of Lithuanian origin, the largest share in exports fell within mineral products (26%), miscellaneous manufactured articles (10%), live animals and animal products (7.9%), and prepared foodstuffs (7.7%).
