BC, Riga, 28.11.2014.Print version
The number of employers who are planning to hire new workers has reduced in all Baltic States – employers in Lithuania are more optimistic, while those in Latvia and Estonia are more conservative, according to a study conducted by CV-Online, cites LETA.

A total of 2,500 Latvian, Lithuanian, and Estonian employers participated in the survey.

The study reveals that 42% of respondents in Latvia are planning to employ new workers next year, in Lithuania – 47%, in Estonia – 40%. Compared with the results from the previous year, in Latvia these indicators have reduced by 21%, in Lithuania – by 11%, in Estonia – by 16%.

The study also finds that the majority of new employees will work in companies that operate in IT, retail trade, finance, insurance, and engineering industries.

The number of companies that are planning to hire as well as lay off employees has also increased this year – in Latvia 22% (16% one year ago), in Lithuania 27% (24% one year ago), in Estonia 9% (2% one year ago). This means that more companies are assessing the performance of their employees by laying off the less efficient and employing the more efficient ones.

72% of respondents in Latvia said that the main reason why they are planning to hire new workers is to increase the company's activities. Compared with results from the previous year, this indicator has decreased by 14%. Another important factor in employing new staff is the rotation of employees – 35% of respondents in Latvia mentioned this.
