Old Town, Freedom Monument and National Opera house most popular tourist sites in Riga

29% foreign tourists said that the most interesting tourist attractions in Riga was the Old Town, 6.3% – the Freedom Monument, 4.3% – Latvian National Opera, according to a study conducted by the Riga Tourism Development Bureau, cites LETA.

Other popular places of visit were St. Peter's Church (3.9%), and Riga Dome Cathedral (3.7%). Among the most interesting and attracting objects in Riga were the Latvian National Library, Riga Central Market, parks, Riga Zoo, Alberta Street, churches, Kalnciems Quarter, and others.

 

"The survey revealed that the majority of visitors of Riga said that the city had met their expectations (53.5%), while almost half (45.2%) said that their time in Riga was better than expected. Only 1.4% (25 respondents) said that they were disappointed in their visit," the Riga Tourism Development Bureau board member Vita Jermolovica explained.

 

The most positive feedback came from tourists from the Netherlands (63%), Finland (54%), and Belgium (50%).

 

When asked to describe Riga in three words, the word "beautiful" was mentioned most often (237 respondents), followed by "nice", "culture", and "history". A large number of respondents said that they associate Riga with its heart – the Old Town.

 

Norwegian tourists described Riga as "cheap", referring to the relationship between quality and price.

 

The negative feedback was mostly connected with weather (3%), and lack of language skills (1.7%), as well as expensiveness (1.7%).
