Estonians like buying smarter TV sets

Estonian TV sets shopping survey shows that as time goes on, people buy smarter and bigger TV sets, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

Market research firm GfK Retail and Technology retail survey shows that in three years, the sales of Smart TV sets has almost doubled in Estonia, and people buy more high-resolution and large screen televisions.

In 2012, 30% of all sold TV sets were smart TVs, but in October this year, their sales accounted for 55% of all TVs sold.

The screen size of TV sets has also grown steadily over time – last month, every fourth TV set that was sold was a 46-inch screen or larger one.

"The use sphere of TV sets is no longer just to view the channels, it is becoming a home multimedia centre,” said GfK Retail and Technology Eesti head Heiko Hera.

Although the size of the television and the capability is increasingly improving, average price decreases. While in 2012, an average TV set cost 520 euros, in 2014 the average price of a TV set is 503 euros.

He added that technology, including televisions, is a deflationary area where products become increasingly better but the price drops. “In recent years, an average of seventy to seventy-five thousand TV sets per year have been sold, but the revenue from sales is decreasing, "said Hera.
