The impact of the euro changeover on monthly inflation in Latvia in January 2014 was between 0.12 and 0.21 percentage points, the European Union's statistical office Eurostat said, cites LETA.

According to Eurostat estimates, consumer prices in Latvia, calculated according to the Harmonized Indices of Consumer Prices (HICP) index, increased 0.68% this past January from December 2013.

If Latvia had not joined the euro area on January 1, monthly inflation would have probably been 0.47% to 0.56%.

Eurostat considers that the euro changeover effects in Latvia have been noticeable but were not of a magnitude that could drive headline inflation.

The Latvian euro changeover impact is in line with what was observed in other EU member states that adopted the euro, notes Eurostat.
