Estonia registers second fastest retail sales growth in EU in September

In September 2014, compared with September 2013, Latvia's retail sales increased 3.6%, which is the seventh fastest growth among all European Union (EU) member states that have provided information, according to latest data collected by Eurostat. Estonia was second, informs LETA.

The highest increase in retail sales in September, was registered in Luxembourg – 12.3%, Estonia – 9.1%, and Bulgaria – 5.6%. In Lithuania, retail trade turnover increased by 4.9%, the fifth fastest increase.

 

Meanwhile, Finland registered the largest reduction in retail sales – 3.2%, followed by Poland – 1.8%, as well as Germany and Denmark – by 0.8% each.

 

In comparison with September 2013, retail sales turnover in all EU countries grew one% in September 2014, while the eurozone registered a 0.6% increase.

 

Meanwhile, when compared to the previous month, retail sales turnover in the eurozone reduced by 1.3% in September, and in the EU by 1.2%.

 

The fastest month-on-month increase of retail sales turnover was registered in Malta – by one%, Luxembourg – by 0.9%, as well as Hungary and Slovakia – by 0.7% each.

 

Meanwhile, the largest retail sales decline was registered in Germany – by 3.2%, Portugal – by 2.5%, and Poland – by 2.4%.

 

Latvia saw a month-on-month reduction of 0.3% in retail trade sales in September, Lithuania registered a 0.2% increase, while Estonia saw a 0.6% rise.
