There is no reason to celebrate Latvia's position in the World Bank's latest "Doing Business" study, Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry board chairman Janis Endzins told the Nozare.lv business portal, cites LETA.

"Latvia's progress is not because of improvements in the business environment but due to changes in the rating methodology," said Endzins.

Should the same methodology be used as before, Latvia would have actually gone down two places in the ranking, said Endzins, adding that it should rather be seen as a serious warning.

The LCCI is especially concerned about the fact that Latvia has gone down ten places in the "Starting a Business" category in the latest "Doing Business" study.

"These findings offer unmistakable signs for the next government, which will have to achieve that international competitiveness of Latvia's business environment improve," said Endzins.

As reported, Latvia is ranked 23rd in the World Bank's "Doing Business 2015" study. Estonia is in 17th place and Lithuania is 24th.

Singapore is considered the best place in the world to do business, followed by New Zealand and Hong Kong.
