Latvians want president to be elected by popular vote

78% of economically-active residents of Latvia, aged between 18 and 55, are in favor of a president elected by popular vote, according to a survey conducted by TNS and LNT television, reports LETA.

When asked whether they support changing the presidential election system so that the president is elected by popular vote, 43% of respondents said "definitely yes", while 35% said "likely yes."

 

Meanwhile 16% of respondents were against the idea – 11% said "likely no", 5% – "definitely no".

 

6% of respondents did not provide a specific answer on this matter.

 

The survey was conducted in a time period between October 14 and October 16. A total of 850 economically-active residents of Latvia, aged between 18 and 55, were surveyed online.
