Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Chung Ui-hwa said that his country regards Lithuania a worthy partner and offered his personal support.

According to Grauziniene, close parliamentary co-operation supplements the development of tighter political, economic and cultural relations. Besides, in recent years South Korea and Lithuania have worked closely in international organisations.

Significant South Korea's support for Lithuania's energy independence was noted at the meeting. Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard has built liquefied natural gas carrier Independence which is on its way to Lithuania.

The head of the Korean Parliament invited to seek for innovative ways how inter-parliamentary co-operation could contribute to solving relevant regional and global problems.

During the visit Lithuania and Korea signed the agreement on bilateral recognition and issuance of driving licences. Speaker Grauziniene is also scheduled to hold meetings with the prime minister of the Republic of Korea, the heads of Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency, the second deputy minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, as well as with the president of the National Information Society Agency.

It was the first time in history that the Speaker of the Lithuanian Parliament has visited South Korea.
