Latvia records EU's smallest reduction in industrial production in August

Industrial production in Latvia reduced by 0.4% in August 2014 year-on-year, which is the smallest reduction among all the European Union member states for which data are available, the EU statistical office Eurostat announced today, cites LETA.

Industrial production decreased the most in Malta – 7%, Greece recorded a 6% fall, Lithuania 4.9% and Croatia 4.7% decrease.

 

Ireland had the steepest increase in industrial production of 18.3%, Luxembourg had 5.6% and Slovenia 4.6%.

 

In Estonia, industrial production increased 3%.

 

Overall, eleven countries registered reductions in industrial production, and fourteen countries recorded increases in industrial production.

 

In all the EU member states for which data are available, industrial production in August fell 0.8% from August 2013, whereas eurozone countries recorded a 1.9% reduction. As compared to this past July, industrial production in the EU decreased 1.4% and in the eurozone 1.8% in August.

 

Seven member states posted increases and sixteen recorded reductions in their industrial production volumes. In Luxembourg and Great Britain, industrial production remained unchanged from July.

 

In Latvia, industrial production decreased 0.2% – the second smallest reduction among all member states.

 

Denmark recorded the fastest increase in industrial production from July – 6.9%, followed by Portugal – 3.1%, and Netherlands – 1.3%.

 

The steepest reduction in industrial production was registered in Hungary – 5.8%, as well as in Germany – 4.3%, and Croatia – 4.1%.

 

In Lithuania, industrial production decreased 3.5% and in Estonia 2%.
