Lithuanian PM: minimum wage must be increased along with growth of other wages

BC, Vilnius, 14.10.2014.Print version
Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius says that the increase of the minimum monthly wage is something to discuss, yet, it should be increased along with the growth of other wages of low-paid employees, informs LETA/ELTA.

"The minimum wage was increased on 1 October and if there are any other proposals, we will consider them. It is something to debate on, but as an economist I would like to say that the minimum wage should be raised along with the growth of other wages, for example in the budgetary sector, cultural and social spheres," Butkevicius said at the Seimas on Tuesday.

According to him, the final decision on the minimum monthly wage will depend on the state's financial capacities and priorities on the Government's program which must be funded in the first place.
