The foreign trade deficit of Lithuania amounted to EUR 0.1 nlm in August

Statistics Lithuania informs that, based on non-final data obtained from customs declarations, Intrastat reporting and VAT returns data, exports in August 2014 amounted to LTL 7.1 billion (EUR 2 billion), imports – LTL 7.3 billion (EUR 2.1 billion).

Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin amounted to LTL 3.8 billion (EUR 1.1 billion). The foreign trade deficit of Lithuania amounted to LTL 0.2 billion (EUR 0.1 billion).

 

Over the month (August 2014, against July), exports decreased by 4.4, imports – by 9.4%. The decrease in exports was influenced by a decrease in exports of boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances and parts thereof(13.3%) and fertilisers (28.3%). The decrease in imports was influenced by a 20.2% decrease in imports of boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances and parts thereof21.7% – ground vehicles. Mineral products excluded, exports decreased by 4.3, imports – by 10.1%. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin decreased by 4.1%, mineral products excluded –by 2.7%. Exports to Russia decreased by 6.7%, of goods of Lithuanian origin – by 15.2%. Exports of food and agricultural products (CN sections I–IV) to Russia decreased by 43.8%, of food and agricultural products of Lithuanian origin – by 60.5% (in July, exports of such products amounted to LTL 93.1 million (EUR 27 million), while in August – LTL 36.8 million (EUR 10.6 million)).

 

Over the year (August 2014, against August 2013), exports decreased by 2.9%, imports – by 4%. The decrease in exports was influenced by a decrease in exports of petroleum products (24.8%). The decrease in imports was influenced by a decrease in imports of crude oil (26.2%). Mineral products excluded, exports and imports increased by 4.3 and 5.4% respectively. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin decreased by 10.7, mineral products excluded – by 1.4%.

 

Exports and imports for the period 2009-2014, January-August

In January–August 2014, against January–August 2013, exports decreased by 2.4, imports – by 0.6%. The decrease in exports was influenced by a decrease in exports of petroleum products (29.7%) and ground vehicles (22.9%). The decrease in imports was influenced by a decrease in imports of crude oil (24.5%) and ground vehicles (14.2%). Mineral products excluded, exports and imports increased by 6.4 and 9.3% respectively. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin decreased by 9.5%, mineral products excluded – grew by 3.2%. Exports to Russia increased by 7.1%, while exports of goods of Lithuanian origin – decreased by 10.9%, which was conditioned by a decrease in exports of milk and dairy products (23.6%), ground vehicles (42.2%) and meat and edible offal (25.8%).

 

In January–August 2014, the most important Lithuania's partners in exports were Russia (21.7%), Latvia (9.2%), Poland (8.2%), and Germany (7.4%), in imports – Russia (22%), Germany (10.8%), Poland (9.5%), and Latvia (6.7%). Most of the goods of Lithuanian origin were exported to Germany (10.6%), Latvia (8.3%), the Netherlands (7.1%), and Poland (7.2%).

 

In January–August 2014, the largest share in Lithuania's exports and imports fell within mineral products (17.6 and 25.5% respectively), machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment (15 and 16.2%), and products of the chemical or allied industries (9.2 and 10.9%). As for the goods of Lithuanian origin, the largest share in exports fell within mineral products (26%), miscellaneous manufactured articles (10.1%), live animals and animal products (8.2%), and plastics and articles thereof (8%).
