Latvia registers EU's third steepest increase in production prices in August

In August 2014, producer prices in Latvia increased by 0.1% from July, which was the third fastest increase among all European Union member states for which data are available, according to the latest report released by the EU statistical office Eurostat, cites LETA.

Producer prices in Sweden increased 0.3% and in Hungary 0.2%.

 

Besides Latvia, Cyprus and Poland also recorded a 0.1% increase in producer prices.

 

On the other hand, producer prices decreased the most in Denmark – 0.7%, Croatia – 0.6%, Estonia – 0.5%, and Slovakia – 0.4%.

 

Producer prices in the Czech Republic, Italy, Malta, Slovenia and Finland remained unchanged in August as compared to July.

 

Lithuania recorded a 0.2% fall in producer prices.

 

In all the EU member states for which data are available, producer prices reduced 0.1% in August from July, and the eurozone also recorded a 0.1% reduction.

 

Compared to August 2013, producer prices in the EU decreased 1.5% and in the eurozone 1.4%.

 

In year-on-year comparison, producer prices only increased in Romania, by 0.8%, and in Latvia and Sweden – 0.3% each.

 

The greatest decreases were registered in Lithuania – 5.1%, Belgium – 4.7%, and Slovakia – 3.8%.

 

Producer prices in Estonia decreased 2.1% year on year.
