In August, industrial production in Lithuania dropped by 7%

Statistics Lithuania informs that in August 2014, industrial production totalled LTL 5.4 billion (EUR 1.6 billion) at current prices and, compared to July, dropped by 7% at constant prices, seasonally adjusted – by 3.6%.

Over the month, mining and quarrying and manufacturing production decreased by 7.2%, seasonally adjusted – by 3%; the same decrease was observed for the manufacturing production.

 

Over the month, a decrease in production was observed for the manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (77%), leather and related products (38.8%), other transport equipment (28.1%), chemicals and chemical products (22.3%), wood and wood products, except furniture (19%), beverages (14.2%).

In August 2014, against July, the largest increase in production was observed for the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (21%), computer, electronic and optical products (12.3%), furniture (3.3%), textiles (1.3%), wearing apparel (1.2%).

In August 2014, against August 2013, industrial production decreased by 5.7% at constant prices, working day adjusted – 5%. Over the year, mining and quarrying and manufacturing production decreased by 5.7%, working day adjusted – by 4.7%, of which manufacturing production decreased by 5.7%, working day adjusted – by 4.8%.

 

In January–August 2014, industrial production totalled LTL 44.3 billion (EUR 12.8 billion) at current prices; compared to the same period of 2013, it decreased by 1.9% at constant prices, working day adjusted – 1.3%. Over the said period, mining and quarrying and manufacturing production decreased by 0.7%, working day adjusted – increased by 0.1%, of which manufacturing production decreased by 0.8%, working day adjusted – remained unchanged.

In January–August 2014, compared to January–August 2013, the proportion of mining and quarrying and manufacturing sales and services on the non-Lithuanian market dropped by 3.4 percentage points and made up 63.6%, on the Lithuanian market – grew by 3.4 percentage points and made up 36.4%.

 

In January–August 2014, compared to January–August 2013, the value of sales and services of industrial enterprises on the non-Lithuanian market dropped by 9.6% at current prices. The decrease was influenced by a 31.6% decrease in sales of refined petroleum products, 11.3% – chemicals and chemical products. The value of sales and services on the non-Lithuanian market, refined petroleum products excluded, increased by 3.2% at current prices. The increase was influenced by an increase in the output of sales of enterprises engaged in the manufacture of rubber and plastic products (24.1%), furniture (14%), fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment (24%), wood and wood products, except furniture (11.8%).

 

Over the period in question, the value of mining and quarrying and manufacturing sales and services on the Lithuanian market grew by 5.1% at current prices, refined petroleum products excluded – by 7%.


Concepts

Industrial production refers to the value (VAT and excise excluded) of the sales of goods produced and manufacturing work carried out by an enterprise. For the calculation of changes in industrial production, a producer price index is used.

 

Sales and services of industrial enterprises refers to the income of en economic entity received during a certain period through the sale of goods manufactured by the economic entity or through the provision of industrial services. The sales of goods purchased for resale, by products, other ancillary services to third persons are included. Income from the sale of tangible fixed assets, financial and investment activity, windfall and the like are not included.
