Unemployment in Latvia reduces to 8.6% in July

The registered unemployment rate in Latvia decreased 0.3 percentage points in July 2014 and currently stands at 8.6% of the economically-active population, according to the State Employment Agency's data, cites LETA.

At the beginning of July, there were 85,296 unemployed persons listed in the Employment Agency's database, whereas at the end of the month the figure was 83,163.

4,322 unemployed persons found permanent jobs in July.

 

The lowest unemployment rate at the end of July was registered in Riga Region – 5.4%, whereas the highest in Latgale Province – 18.1%. In Zemgale, unemployment level has reduced to 8.2%, in Vidzeme to 9.8% and in Kurzeme to 10.9%.

 

Among the cities, Riga has the lowest unemployment level of 5.1%. Unemployment rate for Jurmala is 6%, Valmiera – 6.3%, Jelgava – 6.7%, Ventspils – 7.1%, Daugavpils – 9.3%, Jekabpils – 8.9%, Liepaja – 13%, and Rezekne – 14.9%.
