Number of Russian citizens living in Latvia has increased by 18,545 persons in last five years

In a period of five years, from 2009 to January 1 of this year, the number of Russian citizens living in Latvia has increased by 18,545 persons, according to information from the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs, informs LETA.

In 2009, 30,328 Russian citizens resided in Latvia. However, on January 1 of this year, 48,873 Russian citizens reside in Latvia.


Furthermore, when compared to just last year, when 43,586 Russian citizens resided in Latvia, the number of Russian citizens in Latvia has increased by 5,287 persons.


Meanwhile, the number of ethnic-Russian citizens of Latvia at the beginning of this year was 358,991, which was 3,055 less when compared to the previous year. Furthermore, there were 185,741 ethnic-Russian non-citizens living in Latvia at the beginning of this year, which is by 9,993 persons less when compared to the previous year, when 195,734 ethnic-Russian non-citizens were resided in Latvia.


Since 2009, when according to the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs there were 367,662 ethnic-Russian citizens of Latvia, the number of such persons has reduced by 8,671.


Meanwhile, the number of ethnic-Russian non-citizens over the past five years has reduced by 50,167 such persons.
