In Lithuania, 0.1% deflation projected for July

BC, Vilnius, 16.07.2014.Print version
According to Statistics Lithuania, based on the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), the inflation calculated for July is projected to be negative and stand at –0.1%, informs LETA/ELTA.

Annual inflation in July is expected to amount to 0.8%, whereas the average annual inflation should stand at 0.4%.

In June annual inflation was recorded at 0.3% and the average annual inflation at 0.4%.

It is forecasted that reduction of clothing and footwear prices will have the major effect on deflation in July. This price group is characterised by seasonality related to summer and winter sales. Decreasing communal, water, electricity, gas and other fuels prices (due to reduced natural gas tariff for household users) may also have an effect on deflation. Recreation and culture group prices may slightly increase. Other goods and service group prices are not expected to change significantly and will have little effect on the HICP dynamics.

Communal, water, electricity, gas and other fuels prices which were stable in 2013 started to slowly decrease in 2014. Meanwhile, transport services, food products and non-alcoholic beverages group prices fluctuated in 2013 but have stabilised in 2014 and have not changed significantly.
