Average forest regeneration costs range between EUR 566 and EUR 630 per ha in Latvia
In 2012 these costs accounted for EUR 392 – EUR 595 per hectare.
The average costs of forest regeneration per hectare include expenditure on soil preparation, small sapling expenses and planting costs. The highest soil preparation and planting costs in 2013 were recorded in the forests with the 2nd quality group* forest land; while the lowest – in the forests with the 4th quality group* forest land.

Forest tending costs in Latvia in 2013 on average comprised EUR 210 – EUR 232 per hectare. Forest tending costs include agro-technical tending of forest and tending of young growths. In 2013 the greatest forest tending costs were recorded in the forests with the 1th quality group* forest land.
Harvesting costs refer to final felling, where part of the forest is felled almost completely, and intermediate felling (thinning, conversion cutting, sanitary cutting), where felling is made partly. Each of the felling types includes wood preparation, transportation to the road and transportation to the purchase place.
The total value of the harvesting costs in final felling and intermediate felling are formed by the labour costs, transportation costs, including, costs of the machinery used. In 2013 the average harvesting costs (per one timber cubic meter) in final felling constituted EUR 17.15, and in intermediate felling – EUR 20.88.
Wood cutting in intermediate felling is performed by sampling trees; therefore total harvesting costs in this felling type are higher, as compared to the final felling, where almost all trees are cut. As compared to 2012, total harvesting costs in the main felling in 2013 have remained at the previous year’s level, whereas in intermediate felling they have increased by 4.3%, as compared to 2012.
