The European Commission recommends Lithuanian politicians to introduce pension reforms, according to the Commission, it is necessary to raise the retirement age as after 50 years Lithuania's pension expenditure will be twice higher than the average of the European Union, informs LETA/ELTA, referring to Vakaro zinios.

As the current government does not take the demographic crisis seriously, the said problem is only a drop in the ocean.

Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius assures that it is not sensible to increase the retirement age, the more so as it is difficult to find a job in Lithuania for those over 50.

Vakaro Zinios daily asked the prime minister what the Government had done to solve demographical problems. Butkevicius underlined that it was planned to carry out an analysis of demographic situation and population ageing this year. The guidelines will serve as a basis for new strategic document to solve population issues.
