Latvia registers EU's smallest increase in exports in Q1

Latvia's exports in the first three months of the year 2014 increased by 1% when compared with the same period last year, which is the smallest increase in the EU, according to Eurostat, cites LETA.

Similar to Latvia, Belgium, Italy and Portugal also saw 1% increases in exports in the first three months of the year.

 

According to seasonally unadjusted data, the steepest increase in export was recorded in Romania and the Czech Republic – by 10% each, followed by Luxembourg – 9%, as well as Poland and Croatia – by 8% each.

 

The steepest decreases in export were registered in Malta – 24%, Lithuania – 11%, and Estonia – 8%.

 

Latvia's imports reduced 5% in January-March, year-on-year, which is the second largest reduction behind Lithuania, which saw a 7% reduction.

 

Estonia and Finland had the third largest reduction in imports – by 4% each.

 

The largest year-on-year decreases in import were recorded in Romania – 9%, as well as Ireland and the Czech Republic – 8% each.
