Prime Minister of Lithuania Algirdas Paulauskas has said that compensations of pensions reduced during the economic crisis will commence in late 2014, reports LETA/ELTA.

According to the head of the Government, in 2014, LTL 90 million (EUR 26 million) will be allocated from the state budget for compensation of pensions, i.e. one fifth of all funds for pension compensations.

"We hope that LTL 90 million (EUR 26 million) will be paid out in the fourth quarter of 2014. First of all databases have to be sorted out and certain information technologies obtained," said Butkevicius.

The prime minister promised that this year old-age pensions will be compensated to the retired who are not bound by working relations, while the rest will be paid out in 2015 and 2016.

According to Butkevicius, the Government will provide LTL 450 million (EUR 130 million) for compensations. 20% of the amount will be distributed in 2014 while the rest in 2015 and 2016, 40% each year.

Pensions should be compensated to approximately half a million of beneficiaries.

The prime minister also revealed that the question of reinstating salaries of state officials which were reduced during the crisis has been postponed to May 2015.
