Latvia registers EU's third smallest reduction in producer prices in February

Compared to January, producer prices in Latvia reduced 0.3% in February 2014, the third smallest reduction amongst all European Union countries for which data are available, according to the latest report from the EU statistical office Eurostat, informs LETA.

France and Germany each registered 0.1% reductions in producer prices in February, while Poland and Ireland each saw a 0.2% reduction.

 

Meanwhile, similar to Latvia, Belgium, Austria, Romania and Sweden registered 0.3% reductions in producer prices in February.

 

The largest month-on-month increase was registered in Estonia – 1.9%, followed by Slovakia – 1.6%, Greece – 1.5%, and Lithuania – 0.9%.

 

Compared to January, producer prices in Bulgaria, Portugal, Czech Republic, Great Britain, Malta and Italy remained unchanged in February.

 

In comparison with January, producer prices fell 0.2% in the EU and by 0.2% the euro area.

 

Compared to February 2013, producer prices reduced 1.7% in the EU and 1.6% in the euro area in February 2014.

 

The steepest year-on-year increases were reported by Ireland – 1.1%, Latvia – 0.5%, and Malta – 0.3%.

 

The largest year-on-year reductions were recorded in Cyprus – 5.4%, Lithuania – 4.6%, and Belgium – 4.2%.

 

Estonia saw a 1.6% reduction in producer prices year-on-year.
