Baltic foods prices grew most in Estonia in February y-o-y

The cost of the recommended monthly food basket of a 4-member family has increased in all Baltic States in February 2014 in a year but the increase has been the highest, 4.3% in Estonia, LETA/Postimees Online cites a study by Swedbank Institute of Private Finances.

Price growth was the smallest, 3.2% in Lithuania; in Latvia it was 4.1%.

 

The cost of the recommended food basket for a four-member family in shopping centres of Baltic capitals was according to data collected in February the highest in Latvia (332 euros). In Estonia it was 318 euros and in Lithuania 289 euros. In a year, the spending of a family consisting of two adults and two minors grew by nearly 9 euros in Lithuania, 13 euros in Latvia and 13.2 euros in Estonia.

 

A family that earns an average wage of the country's capital spends 27% of income on food in Riga, 24% in Vilnius and nearly 18% in Tallinn.

 

While the average income of families grew in all three Baltic States, in Estonia by 6.5%, in Latvia by 7.7% and in Lithuania by 4.6%, the spending of the families on food basket has decreased marginally.
