Number of employees who receive minimum wage increased in Lithuania at end-2013

Statistics Lithuania informs that in October 2013 the number of employees (including individual enterprises) with gross earnings of LTL 1,000 (EUR 290) and less stood at 20.7% (221.6 thousand). More than half of employees (123.3 thousand) earning LTL 1,000 (EUR 290) and less were working part-time, writes LETA/ELTA.

The number of full-time employees earning a minimum monthly wage (MMA) stood at 10.5% and grew by 1.6 percentage points over the year

 

In October 2013, the number of full-time employees earning the MMA, against the total number of full-time employees of the respective sector, stood at 10.5% (98.3 thousand) in the whole economy, 6.1% (19.9 thousand) – in the public sector, 12.9% (78.3 thousand) – in the private sector. Against the same period of 2012, the number of such employees in the whole economy grew by 1.6, in the public sector – by 0.8, in the private sector – by 2 percentage points.

 

The number of full-time employees earning LTL 1,500 (EUR 434) and less in the whole economy stood at 37.8%, in the public sector – 26.2, in the private sector – 44.2%. 63.9% of full-time employees earned less than average gross earnings (LTL 2,323/EUR 673).

 

An increase was observed in the number of full-time employees earning LTL 1,201 (EUR 348) and more in the whole economy, especially in the group of those earning from LTL 1,201 (EUR 348) to LTL 1,500 (EUR 434) – by 4.2 percentage points, from LTL 1501 (EUR 434) to LTL 2000 (EUR 579) – 1.1 percentage points, other groups – up to 1 percentage point.

 

The second quartile (median) earnings in the whole economy amounted to LTL 1,866 (EUR 540) and grew by LTL 91 (EUR 26) over the year.

 

In October 2013, the first quarter of full-time employees in the whole economy earned up to LTL 1,268 (EUR 367), the second – from LTL 1,269 (EUR 368) to 1,866 (EUR 540), the third – from LTL 1,867 (EUR 541) to 2,789 (EUR 808), the last – LTL 2,790 (EUR 808) and more.

 

The highest median earnings – LTL 3,177 (EUR 920) – were received in financial and insurance, the lowest – LTL 1,151 (EUR 333) – in accommodation and food service enterprises.
