Population number in Latvia dropped by 7 745 residents in 11 months
Monthly number of births currently does not include children born abroad*, and data will be revised bearing in mind that children are counted up basing on their registration month instead of their birth month, moreover child may be registered within a month after the birth.

Number of deaths still exceeds the indicator recorded in 2012. During 11 months of 2013, 26 545 people in Latvia have passed away, 2 210 of which died in November. Moreover, as compared to the same period of the previous year, when 26 330 Latvia residents deceased, it is 215 people more.
Natural increase in Latvia still stays negative; in eleven months of this year, as the number of deaths exceeded the number of births, population number has dropped by 7 745 residents (by 7 962 people during the same period of 2012).
Number of
marriages is still increasing. During 11 months of this year, 10 869 marriages
were concluded – 487 marriages more than in 11 months of 2012.

Population number on 1 December 2013 accounted for 2 million 6.9 thousand – 17 thousand or 0.8% less than at the beginning of the year. As compared to 11 months of 2012, population decrease in 11 months of 2013 has slowed down slightly (by 1%).

* Starting from 2000, the number of births includes also children born outside Latvia to mother (permanent resident of Latvia) temporarily (for less than one year) abroad. In compliance with the methodology of the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat) mentioned children should be included in the number of children born in Latvia. Before including child in the number of births the information on mother’s place of residence is evaluated as well as National Health Service data on whether newborn has received health care services paid by the State is studied.
