Number of Lithuanian tourists going abroad increased by 19.7% over 9 months of 2008

According to preliminary data of the survey on international tourism conducted by the Department of Statistics, a half of tourists indicated having stayed at their relatives, friends or private sector; 40% of them lived in hotels and motels.
In January-September this year, 80.3% of Lithuanian tourists travelled abroad on vacation, which made an increase of 24.1% compared to the same period last year. The remaining percentage of respondents (19.7%) stated having left the country due to business or occupational interests, a decrease of 23.7%.
Over nine months of 2008, the majority of Lithuanian residents (12%) travelled to Belarus, Latvia (11.5%), Germany (7.2%), England (7.1%) and Poland (6.9%). The highest increase was observed in trips to Norway, Ireland and England.
