Number of civil servants has fallen to 27,072 for 5 years in Estonia

The number of civil servants in Estonia has constantly decreased since 2008, Public Broadcasting cites the fresh public service yearbook, informs LETA.

As of last year, 27,072 officials worked in public service, of whom 22,043 were employed by state institutions and 5,029 by local municipality institutions.

 

In 2011, the number of civil servants was 27,369, thus the fall wasn’t big. In 2007, before the start of the fall, the number of civil servants as 30,003.

 

According to the finance ministry data, the number of public sector employees, when calculated in full work hours, was 138,000 last year versus 135,800 a year earlier. The number of public sector employees forms nearlty 22% of the total employment and has stayed at that for several years.
