Print versionThe number of needy residents in Latvia reduced below 100,000 in May 2013, the first time in four years, reports LETA, referring to the Welfare Ministry's data.

97,474 residents were below the poverty line in May, compared to 102,904 in April.
In comparison, there were 155,600 low-income residents in May 2010, 185,300 in May 2011, 150,900 in May 2012.
LVL 3.7 million was spent on municipal social aid benefits this past May, including LVL 806,900 – on the guaranteed minimum income, LVL 1.53 million – on apartment allowances.
84,000 residents received municipal social aid benefits in May.
