The largest increases in average hourly labor costs in Q1 recorded in Romania and Estonia

The largest increases in average hourly labor costs in the first quarter of 2013 were recorded in Romania – 8.6%, Estonia – 7.5%, and Slovakia – 5.5%. In Latvia they increased 4.7% and in Lithuania – by 4.8%, writes LETA.

Average hourly labor costs in Latvia increased 4.7% in the first quarter of 2013, compared to the same period in 2012 – the eighth steepest increase in the European Union, according to the latest data from the EU's statistical office Eurostat.

 

Similarly to Latvia, average hourly labor costs grew 4.7% in Bulgaria.

 

Average hourly labor costs increased in all member states for which data are available, with the exception of Spain, Portugal, Slovenia and Cyprus which saw 0.7%, 0.3%, 3.8% and 0.5% decreases, respectively.

 

Lithuania saw a 4.8% increase in average hourly labor costs.

 

Overall, average hourly labor costs increased 1.9% in the EU and 1.6% in the eurozone.


In the EU, average hourly labor costs in industry increased 3.4%, whereas in construction and services – 1.7%.

 

In Latvia, average hourly labor costs in industry grew 5.6%, in construction – 5.4%, in services – 4.7%.
