Retail trade of Lithuania grew by 7.3% over January–October 2008

Statistics Lithuania reports that based on preliminary results of the survey of trade and catering enterprises, turnover of retail trade, sale of motor vehicles and motorcycles, maintenance and repairs of motor vehicles and motorcycles, as well as retail sales of automotive fuel trade enterprises (VAT excluded) over January–October 2008 made LTL 30 125.8 million (in 2007, respectively, LTL 25 603.4 million) and, as compared with the same period in 2007, grew by 7.3% at constant prices (over January–October 2007, against the same period in 2006, respectively, by 19%).

In October 2008, against October 2007, turnover decreased by 5.2%.  

 

The turnover of enterprises trading in food products over January–October 2008, as compared to the same period of the previous year, increased by 3.7% at constant prices. Most of all, turnover increased in the enterprises having 50 and more persons employed – by 4.9%, while the turnover of enterprises having 1–9 persons employed decreased by 13.9%, other enterprises (having 10–49 persons employed) – by 14.1% at constant prices. In October 2008, against October 2007, the turnover increased by 0.3%.  

 

The turnover of enterprises trading in non-food goods (automobiles excluded) over January–October 2008, against the corresponding period of 2007, increased by 10.2% at constant prices. The growth in the turnover of this group was determined by enterprises having 50 and more persons employed. Their turnover increased by 11.2% respectively, whereas the turnover of enterprises having 10–49 persons employed grew by 1.9%; the turnover of enterprises having 1–9 persons employed went down by 5.3% at constant prices. In October 2008, against October 2007, the turnover increased by 1.4%.  

 

The turnover of retail sale of motor vehicles and motorcycles, their maintenance and repair, retail sale of automotive fuel-related enterprises over January–October 2008, as compared to the respective period of 2007, grew by 7.8% at constant prices (over January–October 2007, against the same period in 2006, respectively, by 27.9%).

 

Although the strongest impact on that was made by the rise in the turnover of enterprises engaged in sale of motor vehicles, motorcycles, motor vehicle parts and accessories (by 10.5% at constant prices), over the previous months a slowdown in the growth of the turnover of these goods was registered. In October 2008, against October 2007, the turnover decreased by 12.9%. 

 

The turnover of restaurants, bars and other catering enterprises (VAT excluded) over January–October 2008 accounted for LTL 887.2 million and, against the same period in 2007, increased by 4.9%. In October 2008, against October 2007, the turnover of such enterprises decreased by 2%. 

 

In October 2008, the turnover of retail trade, sale of motor vehicles and motorcycles, their maintenance and repair, retail sale of automotive fuel enterprises (VAT excluded) accounted for LTL 3039.4 million and, against September 2008, grew by 0.3% at constant prices. 

 

In October against September 2008, the turnover of retail trade enterprises, except sale of motor vehicles and motorcycles, their maintenance and repair, retail sale of automotive fuel, increased by 2.2%. The turnover of non-food commodities (except vehicles) increased by 0.2%, while that of enterprises trading in food products – by 4.6% at constant prices. 

 

The turnover of retail sale enterprises of motor vehicles and motorcycles, their maintenance and repair, retail sales of automotive fuel-related enterprises in October against September 2008 decreased by 2.2% at constant prices. 

 

In October 2008, the turnover of restaurants, bars and other catering enterprises accounted for LTL 90.1 million and, against September 2008, decreased by 2.2% at constant prices. 

 

In October against September 2008, the turnover of retail trade enterprises, except motor vehicles and motorcycles, their maintenance and repair, retail sale of automotive fuel, seasonally adjusted, increased by 3.5%, while against October 2007, working day adjusted, increased by 0.9%.
