23% more cargo loaded in Lithuanian sea ports in January-October 2008

According to the data of the Lithuanian Department of Statistics, 25.3 million tones of cargo was loaded in Klaipeda sea port, an increase of 10.8% year-on-year. A total of 7.36 million tones of crude oil was loaded in Butinge terminal in January-October this year, an increase of 95.6% compared to the first ten months of 2007.
The total number of passengers visiting Klaipeda sea port by ferries in January-October this year advanced 1.7% year-on-year and reached 2.2 million people.

The European Airports Association (ACI) has announced summarized activity results of major European international airports for the first nine months of this year. Vilnius International Airport (TVOU) firmly holds leading position, which has been recognized as the leading airport according to the growth of passenger flows in the group of airports serving 1-5 million passengers a year.
According to Vilnius Airport spokesman, TVOU was leading the entire nine months, capturing the first, the second or the third position all the time. The flow of passengers in TVOU advanced 28% over the first three quarters compared to the same period of 2007 and the number of flights rocketed 30.6%. According to the aforementioned parameters, Vilnius overcomes Sofia, capital of Bulgaria, which was the second, considerably.
Although less passengers will be served in Vilnius Airport in November and December compared to the previous months this year, TVOU is to witness 2 million passengers this year. The result for ten months exceeds 1.8 million passengers.
In January-October 2008, the Lithuanian airports served a total of 2.2 million passengers, an increase of 20.7% from the same period of 2007.
According to data provided by the Statistics Department, the largest share of passengers traveled to and from the United Kingdom (306,800 passengers/13.6%), Germany (230,900 passengers/10.3%), Ireland (203,400 passengers/9%) and Denmark (189,200 passengers/8.4%).
Compared with the first nine months of 2007, more passengers traveled to and from Ireland (23.5%), UK (6.9%) and Germany (2.5%); while fewer passengers traveled to and from Denmark (4.7%).
A total of 9,100 tonnes of cargo and post was loaded and unloaded in airports, 24.6% less as compared with January-October 2007.
Airports served 40,100 Lithuanian and foreign airplanes, which is 13.5% more than in this period of 2007.
