Lithuania’s EconMin: Euro will not have different effects on small and large companies

Print versionLithuanian Minister of Economy Birute Vesaite says that she does not think that the euro adoption in the country could harm small-scale companies. The only difference that companies could feel will be changes in export destinations, she says, reports LETA/ELTA.

"I do no think that there would be a big difference for small or large scale companies. Especially, given that we export both to the European Union and third countries. Well, a certain difference may only come with a change in export destinations. But, be it a small or large business, I do not think that differences would be significant," the minister said Thursday morning on the radio Ziniu Radijas.
The minister thinks that it is beneficial for Lithuania to have the euro also for the reason that other countries in the region – Latvia, Estonia and Poland will have the euro by 2015. Vesaite also reminded that the litas is already pegged against the euro.
Lithuania expects to shift to the euro in 2015.
