One in two Estonian residents owns a car

The number of vehicles per 1,000 residents grew by 9% in 2011 and the number of cars grew 5.4%, appears from traffic enumeration statistics collected by Tehnokeskus.
A total of 685,000 motor vehicles are registered in Estonia, 429,000 of them are older than ten years. The share of motor vehicles that have up to two years have increased slightly (by 1.4%) whereas the share of vehicles that are 3-5 years old has started falling: it was 12% in 2011 and 15.3% in 2010.
The number of first registrations of cars reached its lowest point in 2009, when an average of 1,753 cars per month were entered into the register. Since March 2010, registration of cars has grown slightly and in 2011, registration of cars has reached the level near that of the year 2008.
In comparison to the year 2010, the number of first registrations of cars grew 54% in 2011. The first registrations of other types of vehicles grew as well (with the exception of buses and ATVs). The share of new cars of all first-registered cars was 38%; 2% higher than in 2010.
