Vilnius municipality ordered Ernst and Young Baltic to carry out research on economic development trends in Vilnius and evaluate the possibilities of increasing wages and salaries in the city.
The experts forecast that if the suggested measures get implemented, an average salary in Vilnius in 2020 could be from LTL 3,594 to LTL 4,928 (from EUR 1,042 to EUR 1,428), reported ELTA/LETA.
"The strategic plan for Vilnius City, signed 10 years ago, said that a Vilnius resident would get an average salary of LTL 6,400 (EUR 1,855) in 2020. But given the latest calculations by the experts, it is likely that an average wage will stand at around LTL 5,000 (EUR 1,450) because of the economic crisis. The experts speak about two scenarios: a reference scenario when average gross salary in Vilnius stands at LTL 3,596 (EUR 1,042) and an optimistic scenario with a LTL 4,928 (EUR 1,428) salary," the mayor said.
