10% working age Lithuanians are unemployed

By June 21, 2012, Lithuanian Labour Exchange had registered 207,200 jobseekers who account for 10.02% of all working age residents of the country.

In a week, around 4,000 job vacancies were registered, reports LETA/ELTA.

 

From June 15 to 21, a jobless status was granted by the territorial labour exchanges to 5,400 people, 1,200 of them or 22% were under 25 years old.

 

Even though the total number of jobless fell by 16%, the number of unemployed youth grew by 10% which is typical for the end of a school year.

 

In the last week, the territorial labour exchanges assisted in employing 3,900 jobseekers. Around 2,000 jobseekers were directed to active labour market policy measures.

 

Unemployment benefits were paid to 32,900 or 15.9% of the registered unemployed. In a week, 2,200 new unemployment benefits assigned.
