Lithuanian president: government good at generating ideas, but fails to implement them

Petras Vaida, BC, Vilnius, 04.06.2012.Print version
President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite thinks that the current Government has successfully managed to address the challenges of the crisis, however, it failed to seize the opportunity of the hard times to implement some essential structural reforms and make state companies' work more efficient.

"In my view, the current Government is a good generator of ideas and conceptual solutions but fails to implement them administratively," she said in a interview to the Lithuanian weekly Veidas.

"It has begun working during the hard times of the crisis which we managed to survive as many other European countries are still deep in the crisis () even though the Government has responded to the challenges of the crisis successfully, it missed the opportunity presented by the downturn itself – to take serious structural reforms in health and social care sectors, as well as to improve the work of state-owned companies," she said.

The president said that the parliamentary elections will most probably bring great changes. But in the first place, according to her, people must understand that they have to come to polling stations, writes LETA/ELTA.

Grybauskaite thinks that the future coalition might be made up of more than 3 political parties, perhaps of 4 or 5 partners. She underlined that even though the left-wing parties are elected to the Seimas, this does not mean that their policies will typical to the leftist parties.
