Latvian ministries predict 13.4% average unemployment rate for 2012

Finance and economy ministries predict that, compared to 2011, the average unemployment level in Latvia could reduce by 2 percent to 13.4 percent this year, according to the ministries' informative report on the macroeconomic situation in the country, which will be reviewed by the government next week.

It is expected that the situation on Latvia's labor market will continue to improve, mostly determined by last year's positive developments. In the second half of the year, labor market recovery will become more moderate alongside slower economic growth, writes LETA.

Compared to 2011, the number of employed persons could increase by 1.5%. However, this increase will be slower than Latvia's economic growth, since the country's output will be based on increased productivity.

Faster growth it expected in construction, information and communication sectors. These trends will be reflected in the sector's demand for labor force.

The demand for labor force will also grow in transport and storage sectors, as well as in professional, scientific and technical services. The number of employed could slightly reduce in public services.
