Estonian Ministry of Finance: unemployment will go up in the nearest quarters

Print versionCommenting on the unemployment rate disclosed by Statistics Estonia, Estonian Ministry of Finance announced that the increase in unemployment is expected in the nearest quarters of 2008, the Baltic Business News Channel announced.

"The current data shows that the labor market developments have reacted to the changed economic situation and, as a result of negative economic growth, decrease of employed persons is expected to continue. Therefore, the unemployment is expected to grow in the nearest quarters," the ministry announced.
According to the ministry, the low unemployment rate in the second quarter was caused by the increase of non-active persons.
